Logic

Greetings from the Logic School Head

Logic school is the second stage in the classical approach to education at Covenant Christian Academy.  During this stage, the students go beyond the foundational facts learned in Grammar School and begin to develop reasoning and formal logic skills.  Material is taught with an emphasis on comprehension rather than memorization.  Critical thinking skills such as application, analysis, and evaluation are emphasized in all subject areas to prepare the students for the final stage of Rhetoric School

Most would agree that the students at this level are undergoing many physical and emotional changes that create potential learning and relational challenges.  Our Logic School program endeavors to meet these challenges by supporting the students through character building and educational training opportunities.

  • The mission statement of CCA expresses our goal to instill in our students a passion for excellence, a heart of grace, and the character of Christ.  This desire is lived out on a day-to-day basis by our faculty and staff as we strive to be role models for our students and inspire them to excellence, in all areas of their lives, for the glory of God.
  • Students meet for a chapel service weekly where the character traits of responsibility, leadership, and integrity are emphasized in addition to a Bible study that supplements their regular Bible classes.
  • School-wide community service opportunities are scheduled throughout the year to instill a desire to see beyond themselves to the needs of others.
  • Students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills by participating in National Junior Honor Society (8th grade), Student Council (7th & 8th grade), and Logic School Leaders (5th & 6th grade).
  • Various athletic, fine art, and academic competitions allow the students to develop the ability to strive for excellence in a Christ-like manner.
  • Opportunities are provided to develop social and relational skills through supervised activities such as homecoming and social events.

Students at the 5th through 8th grade levels have a wide range of needs and capabilities.  Our Logic School students are therefore divided into two sections, each with age- appropriate schedules and developmental goals.

  • Early Logic School (5th & 6th grade) is housed in our beautiful new building designed especially for these grades.  Their schedule allows for a gradual transition out of Grammar School.  The students still have a homeroom, rotate between two or three teachers for their core subjects, and see enrichment teachers for fine arts, PE, Latin, and computer classes.  They learn how to use lockers and to manage their time and supplies effectively.  Contact with the older grades is limited while skills necessary for the transition to a full rotating schedule are emphasized.
  • Advanced Logic School (7th & 8th grade) is housed in our Logic and Rhetoric School building.  Students rotate to different classrooms and teachers for each of their subjects.  A modified final exam schedule and a weekly study skills class allow the students to make the final transition to the Rhetoric School schedule and expectations.  The study skills class concentrates on time management, organizational skills, test preparation, note taking skills, and effective study techniques.
