FAQs

Question: What is FLEX?

Answer: FLEX (Foreign Language Exploration) introduces French, Spanish, and German to students beginning in the Pre-Grammar school-Grade 3. Because the program was created with your child's developmental stage in mind, it provides a rich, multi-sensory language environment that compliments your child's curiosity and natural ability to acquire language.

Inspiring delight in learning a foreign language is at the heart of FLEX. FLEX engages children in age-appropriate activities and invites them to speak in the target language. In Pre-Grammar students learn songs, numbers, action verbs, and vocabulary. In Grade 2 students use the target language through story telling and total physical response (STPR). In Grade 3, they also add a pre-Latin unit to prepare them for Grade 4 Latin study.

Question: Will my student get the languages mixed up?

Answer: We have a different teacher for each language so students will associate a specific teacher with a particular language. This significantly decreases the chance that a student will mix languages.

Question: Will my child be fluent in all three languages by the end of Grade 3?

Answer: Non, No, and Nein. The principal goal of FLEX is to create an openess and awareness of different languages as there are more than 6,8000 languages spoken globally. Students will not be fluent but will have internalized greetings, numbers, vocabulary, verbs, and children's songs. This builds a foundation and a love of learning to prepare students for advanced foreign language study in the Rhetoric school.
