Covenant Christian Academy is a Christian school, therefore, we recognize that God is the creator of all things. And, because we are God's creatures, made in His image, He made us to be creative beings. In fact, we delight in creating. This is why children are so eager to show us the picture they just made, or sing the song they just learned. They present it to us as a "gift." In exercising our creativity and using the creative gifts God has given to us, we commune with God in a very special way. In the film "Chariot's of Fire," the great Scottish runner and missionary Eric Liddell explains to his sister, "When I run, I feel His pleasure." In the same way when we sing to the Lord, or when we create something beautiful, we feel His pleasure in a way that is deeply personal. We transcend simply being told what God is like into actually experiencing a small part of who He is. It is an act of worship. Therefore, the development of our creative gifts enables us to experience communion with the Lord with a greater level of intimacy. By developing skills in music, art, and spoken word, we are able to give expression to our faith and relationship with God on a much deeper level. In addition, the development of the artistic talents with which God has gifted us, can be used to glorify Him and to bring others to know Him. Finally, CCA is a classical school which refers to a three-tiered process of teaching, but also indicates that we place an emphasis upon the "classic" works of western civilization. These are the works that have "stood the test of time" and are part of the cultural landscape in which we live. Our desire is that our students' understanding of the great works of art integrates with their understanding of all the other disciplines they study while at CCA. In this way, when our students graduate they will be well equipped to participate in the "Great Conversation," and to enjoy a lifetime of artistic appreciation and expression.
"Sing for joy to the Lord...Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy." Psalm 38
