Performing Arts - Theater

In the Pre-Grammar and Grammar schools, theater instruction takes the form of recitation and preparation for the ACSI speech meet. Students learn some of the basic elements of theater including memorization, vocal projection, speaking with expression, characterization, and stage deportment. Theater instruction for this age is integrated with the students' study of music and speech and is taught by the music teacher and the classroom teachers.

In the Logic school, grades 7 and 8, students have the opportunity to participate in two of the following disciplines: music, drama, and visual art. The drama students learn the beginning elements of theater and acting. Students have the opportunity to participate in a fall drama production and the spring musical theater production. Past performances include Annie, The Importance of Being Ernest, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, A Christmas Carol, and Fiddler on the Roof.

In the Rhetoric School, grades 9 through 12, students have the opportunity to specialize in one or two arts disciplines. The theater instruction for this age emphasizes more advanced elements of theater and acting. Students also have the opportunity to compete in the TAPPS theater contest and participate in the spring musical. Past performances include Annie, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof.
