VARSITY GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM FORCES GAME INTO OVERTIME
COVENANT ATHLETES SIGN WITH UNIVERSITIES ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
National Signing Day saw two CCA seniors sign letters of intent with out of state universities. Kourtney Squires, who has been at Covenant since Pre-K, will attend Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina, on a track scholarship. Kourtney has been a member of Covenant's last four TAPPS 3A State Championship Girls' Track teams. Her parents are Keith and Kathy Squires. She has been coached by Dennis Harris.
First-year Covenant student Brett Maxie led the Cougar football team to the playoffs as quarterback, and will play for Central Oklahoma University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Brett is the son of former NFL player and current coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Brett Maxie, Sr., and his wife Angela.

Baylor University's coveted Bobby Jones Memorial Award is an annual honor given to an outstanding senior student-athlete for leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, and team play. Jake LaMar, a 2004 graduate of Covenant, is this year's recipient, and received the award at the
October 24 Baylor Homecoming game. Jake finished his college career in 2008 as Baylor's all-time leader in games played with 47. While at Baylor, he played safety for the Bears and was a four-time Academic All-Big 12 selection. He also earned honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition as a junior with three sacks, 67 tackles, and 5.5 tackles for loss.
At Covenant, Jake earned All-State honors his senior year as a linebacker and running back, and helped advance the Cougars to the TAPPS state semifinals.
As a junior, Jake played quarterback, leading his team to an 11-1 record, a district title, and a state runner-up finish. Jake said that going to Covenant really prepared him for college, both academically and athletically. It is still a very special place for him. "When I got to college, I felt very prepared. CCA is a good Christian school, and I know that my parents sacrificed to put me, my brother, and my sisters through, and I feel very blessed because of that. I felt that it was a place that I grew spiritually, mentally, and physically."

Covenant Football Players Earn Top Rankings
After week eight of the regular season, Cougar receiver Caden Compton ranks number one in the DFW area for most receiving yards and number two in the state for most receiving yards. He currently has caught 42 passes for 899 yards resulting in five touchdowns.
Quarterback Brett Maxie has contributed to the Cougar offense with 1,852 yards in passing offense and 869 yards in rushing offense for a total of 2,721 yards. Together with 84 points scored so far this season, this ranks the Cougar offense at number four in the state in all classifications for total offense yardage.

Covenant Scores Big With Coaches
Covenant Christian Academy hired three coaches this fall with over 70 years of combined experience. Coach Barry Morgan join the staff as Athletic Director and Head Varsity Football Coach. Coach Morgan comes to Covenant after 20 years as the AD and football coach at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison. He served for 16 years in public schools after graduating from Baylor University.
Coach Diana DeBord is coming to Covenant as the Girls' Varsity Head Basketball Coach, Biology and A&P teacher after retiring from the HEB School district. She served at Hurst Jr High for 12 years before becoming the Girls' Basketball Coach at LD Bell High School for ten years. Coach DeBord assisted her husband, Ray DeBord, in 2006 when he was Head Coach of CCA's girls' basketball team, winning the TAPPS 2A State Championship.
The youngest of these three new coaches is Amy Hickman. Amy first came to Covenant as a parent when she enrolled her daughter Kelley in 2002. After serving at Grand Prairie schools for eight years, Coach Hickman is now the Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at CCA.
