PRE-GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Our Pre-K program is located in the children's building at the Harwood Terrace Baptist Church and is conveniently located on Brown Trail Road, less than one mile from the main CCA campus. We are blessed to have a gracious host church family with plenty of space to accommodate our program. This secure and self-contained facility offers a shaded playground, playfield, full-sized gym, lunch area, and chapel.

Our Kindergarten and Pre-First students are currently on our main campus in our Westminster building which was named after Westminster Presbyterian Church formerly located on Brown Trail Road. The congregation generously donated the property to the school. In recent years several classrooms, a multi-purpose room and a large shaded playground were added to accommodate our growing program.

CORE CURRICULUM
Bible: ACSI - Biblical events and people are brought to life in meaningful and relevant ways by exploring Bible themes such as: Creation, God's plan for his family, Jesus' life and teaching, and God's helpers in the New Testament church. Each day the children pray, learn Bible stories, and memorize Bible verses to encourage their relationship with God. In addition, lessons teach biblical principals and help cultivate moral character. Bible themes are integrated in all subject areas developing a child's acknowledgment of God's creation in all learning. Children attend chapel once a week.*

* Pre-K3 (T/TH) and Pre-K4 (T/TH) do not attend chapel

Language Arts: SRA Open Court Reading - A research-based curriculum grounded in systematic, explicit instruction of phonemic awareness, phonics, and word knowledge. Instruction includes comprehension skills, reading strategies, literary inquiry, writing skills, language artistry, and handwriting. Social Studies, art, dramatic play, and center-based activities are integrated with Bible and language art themes to further develop the child's interest in learning about the world around them. Instruction uses a hands-on approach to foster creativity and cooperation.

Mathematics: Harcourt Brace Math Advantage* - A manipulative-based approach that introduces number concepts, study of patterns, counting, number recognition, geometric shapes, problem solving, addition, and subtraction.

*Pre-K uses Saxon Math K.

Science: Christian Schools International - A hands-on approach to science. Instruction includes investigation of living and non-living things, transportation, simple machines, the ocean, and weather.

    PRE-FIRST
    Pre-First is a class available by recommendation only. This small class provides a bridge for students who have completed Kindergarten and need an additional year of growth and development before entering Grade 1. Older 5-year old students may also be recommended for this class if they meet pre-reading criteria.

    TESTING
    Students applying for Kindergarten are screened by a trained observer using the Gesell Developmental Assessment. Results of this assessment along with the teacher's recommendation and parental input enable the school to make appropriate placement decisions.
