GRAMMAR SCHOOL HOURSCORE CURRICULUM Bible: Christian Schools International - Students build on their foundation of Bible knowledge by studying Old and New Testament Bible facts, scriptures and truth. Students begin each day with prayer and memorize Bible verses. Students also attend weekly chapel to encourage a maturing faith and daily walk with the Lord.
Language Arts: SRA Open Court Reading - A literature-based curriculum that emphasizes quality classical and contemporary literary works. Students are taught phonics, structural analysis, comprehension skills, and reading strategies. The program includes vocabulary development, creative writing, spelling, handwriting, writing process, and composition in a variety of genres and styles.
Shurley Grammar: - Using the tried-and-true method of learning grammatical rules by memorization and jingles, students master the parts of speech and proper sentence structure which enables them to become proficient speakers and writers.
Social Studies: Veritas Press History - Students explore God's plan throughout history as they progress chronologically through a study of early civilizations, Ancient Egypt, Old Testament Israel, Ancient Greece, Rome, Medieval civilizations, Renaissance culture, and American History.
Mathematics: Harcourt Brace Math Advantage - An incremental development of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, geometry, graphing, probability, fractions, decimals, percentages, problem solving, and algebraic expressions.
Science: Christian Schools International - An inductive, hands-on study of God's handiwork through observation, classification, and evaluation of data. Students survey life, physical, and earth science concepts.

DISCIPLINE Our philosophy of discipline is redemptive in nature. We want to provide an atmosphere that is both preventive and corrective with the goal of encouraging students to develop self-control.
The Cougar ROAR is a rewards-based system used to encourage positive behavior. Age-appropriate positive as well as a negative consequence system is used that include privileges, rewards, warnings, time out, community service, and parent notification.

PARENT COMMUNICATION Weekly Newsletter (class-specific) The Tuesday Note (school-wide announcements) are sent home in child's folder weekly. Parent-Teacher conferences take place at the end of the first quarter, and are scheduled in October. For the remainder of the school year, conferences with any teacher can be arranged as needed through the Grammar School office.
